The Washington Mystics were unable to overcome a strong defensive performance by the Golden State Valkyries, falling 62-49 Monday night at CareFirst Arena.
In a game where points were difficult to come by, both teams battled defensively from start to finish. Washington struggled offensively but continued to compete on the glass behind Kiki Iriafen and Shakira Austin.
Kiki Iriafen led the Mystics with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Shakira Austin recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Valkyries’ defensive pressure limited Washington’s offensive opportunities throughout the night, resulting in one of the lowest-scoring games of the season.
Despite the loss, the Mystics continued to fight until the final buzzer, with several key defensive stops and rebounding efforts highlighting the team’s resilience.
