Before the Washington Mystics took the court for their thrilling 100–99 victory over the Las Vegas Aces, the evening began with a special moment of recognition at CareFirst Arena.
Sonia Citron, Kiki Iriafen, and Shakira Austin were presented with commemorative basketballs by John Thompson III, celebrating their accomplishments ahead of WNBA All-Star Weekend.
Citron and Iriafen earned 2026 WNBA All-Star selections after outstanding first-half performances that have helped fuel the Mystics’ success this season. Austin, meanwhile, will represent Washington during All-Star Weekend in the Kia WNBA Shooting Stars competition alongside Mystics legend Elena Delle Donne, adding another milestone to her impressive season.
The pregame ceremony gave fans an opportunity to celebrate three players who have become central to the Mystics’ identity. From Citron’s steady play, to Iriafen’s impact on both ends of the floor, to Austin’s continued leadership and presence in the paint, each has played an important role in Washington’s success.
The recognition also set the tone for the night. Just hours after being honored, the Mystics delivered one of their biggest wins of the season, defeating the Las Vegas Aces 100–99 before an energized home crowd.
As the league turns its attention to WNBA All-Star Weekend, the Mystics will be well represented. Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen head to Chicago as 2026 WNBA All-Stars, while Shakira Austin will join Mystics legend Elena Delle Donne in the Kia WNBA Shooting Stars competition.
